The Knight Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation and the Democracy Fund have teamed up for Newsmatch, a national campaign to support nonprofit journalism. This year, they’re matching donations made by the end of the year to the New England Center for Investigative Reporting, dollar for dollar, up to a thousand dollars per gift.
Won’t you be part of the Newsmatch campaign – by making a gift to NECIR that will be doubled in value?
We need fact-based, in-depth, impact-making journalism like never before. And that’s what NECIR has always delivered. Our past reports revealed:
- Unreported abuse, neglect and deaths of at-risk children monitored by Massachusetts child welfare officials, triggering a public outcry and the governor’s decision to reform a risk assessment system used by the state Department of Children and Families.
- A flawed state program to compensate wrongfully convicted inmates after their release, prompting new legislation and a state campaign to improve the system.
- Allegations of abuse, neglect and misspending at a taxpayer-funded special education school in Massachusetts, leading to public hearings in the Massachusetts State House and legislation to improve transparency.
Our investigations make a real impact, in part, because they reach the influential audiences of the New York Times, Washington Post, Boston Globe, WGBH and other news partners.
But future investigations rely on those who care enough about real news to support it. If you count yourself among them, now is the best time to make a gift, while it will go twice as far.
Thank you for believing in journalism that exposes injustice.
Note that your gift will be processed through Boston University and deposited in an account for our exclusive use.
To give by mail, make your check out to “Trustees of BU” with “NECIR” in the memo line, and send to:
