The New England Center for Investigative Reporting is a nonprofit newsroom based at Boston University and WGBH News. Its mission is to expose injustice through investigative reporting and training.
NECIR investigations are regularly broadcast by WGBH and National Public Radio, with companion reports published in newspapers such as the Boston Globe, USA Today, Washington Post and New York Times.
NECIR reporters share their skills through the Summer Journalism Institute for high school students, the investigative reporting seminar at Boston University, and an online workshop for mid-career journalists.
NECIR, founded in 2009 by Boston journalists Joe Bergantino and Maggie Mulvihill, is an original member of the Institute for Nonprofit News, the leading association of nonprofit news organizations. Its work is funded by individual donors, foundation grants, and fees paid by news partners.
